We have sailed 400 miles SSW from Gran Canaria and woke to knocking and grinding in our steering system and observed what looking like a crack in the carbon rudder post! We went into our emergency protocols and reported to the ARC we were pulling out of the ARC and returning to Las Palmas. I’m Happy to report that after several long conference calls with Arcona and technicians they concluded the crack we observed on our rudder post is a factory seem. The knocking and scraping we were feeling and hearing in the steering column was the rudder touching the hull. We swam under the boat to confirm and then we were able to adjust the rudder post and minimize the issue such that all are in agreement it is safe to proceed with the ARC. Ohana will be rejoining the fleet! What a day!! We are back!!
